How published THC figures compare

Strain databases publish a single figure or a range: Leafly lists 19% THC (and 1% CBG), AllBud says THC can reach 24%, Weedmaps gives 15–25% and High Times’ profile 15–22%.2,3,4,5 Seed sellers run from “High (10-15%)” on Dutch Passion’s US shop page and 16–25% in SeedFinder’s Dutch Passion entry to 20% (ILGM) and up to 27% (Barney’s Farm).6,7,8,9

In state lab results, 90% of Durban Poison flower tested below 23.72% and 5.5% reached 25% or more, so the 24–27% figures describe the top of the range rather than typical flower.1 High Times gives 22.43% as its highest lab-tested THC at a High Times Cannabis Cup, in Denver in 2013.10 AllBud also lists 1% CBD; none of the 434 tests in our data that reported CBD reached 1%, and the highest was 0.49%.1,3

Leafly and High Times name terpinolene, myrcene and ocimene as its main terpenes.2,5 In our data the leaders by median are terpinolene 0.93%, β-myrcene 0.20%, β-caryophyllene 0.15%; only 13 tests reported ocimene at all.1 GreenState reports notable THCV and CBG in several lab results; our figures cover THC, CBD and terpenes only, so we cannot check that.1,11

Limits of this data

  • Coverage is uneven: NV (223), MD (123), MI (91) and WA (70) supply most tests, and NV alone supplies 42.2%. Oregon and Rhode Island results carry no product names and could not be matched.
  • Some labs report higher THC than others, so we publish medians and middle ranges rather than maxima. No single lab accounts for more than 23.7% of these tests (35 labs in total).
  • Terpene medians come from 236 tests with individual terpene values, 223 of them from Nevada labs, so the profile mostly describes Nevada flower. Maryland reports only total terpenes, and Washington, Michigan and Hawaii report none.
  • Medians by year move with the mix of states reporting in each year, so we do not read a trend into them. Names were matched strictly: near-miss names and crosses are excluded and counted, duplicate certificates are removed, and in Washington a test counts only when both the strain field and the product name say Durban Poison (157 uncorroborated flower rows were left out).
